Making a Plan
Example (Line Graph)
Before you start writing you can make a quick plan to structure your answer.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The chart below shows the movement of people from rural to urban areas in three countries and predictions for future years.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Mini plan (2 minutes)

B) Example (Formal Letter)
Look for the key pieces of information you wish to communicate and then match these to the question.
Example question
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You recently took a trip with a taxi company. The driver behaved in an unacceptable way and you had a lot of problems. You complained to the company but no-one has replied to your complaint.
Write a letter to the taxi company. In your letter
- say why you are writing and how you feel (prompt 1)
- explain what happened (prompt 2)
- tell them what you would like them to do. (prompt 3)
